Types of online promotion campaigns

What does a promotion campaign mean?

Definition: A promotional campaign is a series of advertisements that use various marketing tools to share similar messages to promote a business or event. A promotional campaign is part of a company's overall marketing campaign and is usually intended to inform the company's target market of a product/service launch, company expansion, or a special brand initiative.

Types of online promotion campaigns

Categories of tools used in promotional campaigns:

  1. Content Marketing - this work technique aims to create only the content, which both search engines and potential buyers/clients constantly need.
  2. Native Advertising is a type of paid, native advertising where ads match the look, feel, and function of the media format in which they appear. It fits "natively" and perfectly on the web page.
  3. Branded Content is content designed to increase awareness of a brand by associating it with content that shares its values. Content does not necessarily have to include brand promotion, although it may include product placement.

The objectives of a promotional campaign include:

  • More sales
  • Increased in-store/shelf presence
  • Extending the selling season
  • Increase in purchase frequency
  • Increasing opportunities to use the product/service
  • Average check growth.

What types of campaigns can be launched?

  1. Brand Awareness Campaign - It is one of the most common types of promotional campaigns launched by brands. A brand recognition campaign aims to spread information about the brand: what it does, what values it bases its daily activity on, and what it does differently from competitors. Of course, it can be quite a challenge to make a large segment of people not only recognize you but also know key details about how you operate. It is precisely for this reason that brand awareness campaigns aim to expose themselves to well-defined target audiences in advance. Big brands can regularly launch such campaigns to maintain their relevance and popularity.
  2. Rebranding Campaign - Successful companies are said to sense trends and follow them. Or, as every expert knows, products and services, like people, have a life span, which corresponds to these stages: launch, growth, maturity, saturation, and decline. However, we are well aware that there are brands that have maintained their relevance for centuries. So, rebranding helps relaunch popular products and services: modernized, changed, fresher.
  3. Google Promotion Campaigns -we are talking here specifically about SEO optimization and Google Ads. When potential customers search on search engines like Google for services and products similar to what your company has to offer, you can target them with search engine marketing (SEM): paid ads in search results and organic (natural) placements in search charts, from SEO promotion.
  4. SMM Campaigns - Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, all these platforms have large audiences, including your target segments. Post images on Pinterest. Post articles on Medium. But they also turn to paid campaigns for greater exposure: on Facebook and Instagram Business, the focus falls on display promotion, through video ads, product exposure, or Instagram stories. Social Media increases brand awareness, brings qualified traffic to your website, and can help you convert more leads through remarketing.
  5. User-generated content (UGC) marketing campaigns - prompt the company's followers to create content, instead of the brand creating it themselves. This type of content is also powerful social validation: if their friend or colleague tells them about a brand, people are much more likely to give it a shot. Thus, UGC helps brands build trust and enjoy beautiful and empowering mentions. Indispensable tools in this regard are hashtags, which will help aggregate user-generated content. Don't forget to approve and respond to this content, showing your customers that you care, the campaign is as important to you as it is to them.
  6. Product/website launch campaigns - successful launches can make the difference between a well-known product and a mediocre one. Your goal with such a campaign is to target the right audience and create buzz around your offer. At this stage, the target audience must understand the advantages of your product or service and why they would need it.
  7. Seasonal sales promotion campaigns - used to promote seasonal sales, products, or services (summer or winter as well as holiday campaigns). They usually work best with businesses that also have a seasonal influx.
